Vital Signs: Melon de Bourgogne is the sole varietal allowed in Muscadet. As the name would indicate, it originated in Burgundy and is still grown there today, albeit on a very limited scale.
Uncle Bill’s Take: Contrary to popular belief, Muscadet ages wonderfully. It takes on a creamy, salty quality that is utterly singular and incredibly food friendly. This bottle practically screams shellfish. It's the kind of thing that would appeal equally to a wine nerd and a more traditional Chablis drinker - Melon de Bourgogne is a distant cousin of Chardonnay.
